Healthy Mind Section
Title: Alzheimer's disease versus senility
In an attempt to use an illustration, this concept was simply used to be an artsy piece that changed the pacing of a very photo heavy issue. The goal was also to tell two different stories with one unified look. Using the branches as the overall shape of the brain, I was able to fill the space with leaves, representing memory, along with a small "wise" owl to represent wisdom and knowledge. When the page has been turned a more empty mind is revealed. The memories have fallen to the ground, blown away, and the owl is gone—all is symbolic of people who suffer with Alzheimer's disease.

Healthy Spirit Section: Mencouragement
Title: Overcoming discouragement
History has shown men have a hard time discussing or sharing their feelings, discouragements, and fears. The writer encourages them to be more open and share their emotions with others. In this illustration, I used the silhouette to weave hands and people reaching out to the lifeless stone profile. This is a great example of how a sketch can still be a sketched piece of art. With a little tightening and color it can still read and have a personal hand-drawn effect.
